Adult Ed Curriculum

Early in 2022, I began working with the Immigrant & Refugee Center of Northern Colorado (IRCNOC) on a project to recreate their Individual Growth Plans (IGPs) for students. In order to create growth plans, the organization’s curriculum needed to be realigned with adult education standards/frameworks and created with a cohesive design allowing for transparency, teaching support, and data collection.

Role: As the most experienced ESL educator and curriculum designer on the three-person teacher team, I took the lead to redesign IRCNOCO’s curriculum and create new systems.

  • Researched CASAS Competencies and Standards, College and Career Readiness Standards, CEFR and other standards based frameworks, and digital literacy standards.
  • Created “I can” statements for each of 7 ESL levels (Literacy to Advanced) to serve as Student Learning Outcomes in Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking, and Digital Skills. Identified CASAS Standards to serve as Objectives for each level. Wrote course descriptions and aligned SLOs, Objectives, and Target Vocabulary and Grammar with suggested teaching ideas and assessment strategies.
  • Wrote the organization’s first Education Program Curriculum Guidelines and Handbook.
  • Created standardized syllabus, lesson plan, student success story report, and other templates .
  • Organized and populated a Teacher’s Google Classroom to make institutional documents, textbook resources, and teaching support materials readily accessible.
  • Supported Individual Growth Plan Forms conversion to Google Forms.
  • Collaborated with team and Data Team to create a teacher reporting system that coordinated with IGPs and SLOs.
  • Collaborated with Office Staff to create new Placement Test.
  • Researched and made recommendations for the use and implementation of organization’s Northstar Digital Literacy subscription which resulted in the creation of a new part-time position.
  • Organized and facilitated multiple presentations and training workshops for faculty and staff.
